YOUR PERSONAL MISSION STATEMENT…

Did you know you were sent to this planet for a particular mission? It’s true? Today companies around the world have developed Mission Statements which they post in view of all their employees to keep their employees on track. Companies have found that the shorter they can keep their written mission, the more likely people will remember it and adhere to it.

God knew people would operate more effectively if they had a personal mission statement that was brief yet precise. Immediately after creating man, God gave him his mission statement in the first four words He spoke to him which were:

“BE FRUITFUL AND MULTIPLY…”

You can’t get anymore simple yet profound than that. It’s very short and easy to remember, but what exactly does it mean.

To “BE FRUITFUL” means to be full of fruit. In the highest sense of the word, God is telling us to be full of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Some of these fruits are listed in the 5th chapter of Galatians 5 which are:

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control…

These nine fruits of the Spirit are the foundation of true success. Anyone who walks in these fruits will be successful at whatever they put their hand to.

As we become successful according to God’s standards, God would have us to “MULTIPLY”. This means that we teach others how to be successful in the Spirit. This, of course, is accomplished by meditating in the Word day and night. The Word of God feeds the Holy Spirit within us. Everyday that we do not meditate in the Word, the Holy Spirit will grow weaker within us and we will be become more fruitless and less able to properly multiply.

The call to “BE FRUITFUL AND MULTIPLY” is the number one theme of the entire Bible. It is repeated over and over in countless ways. It was repeated to Noah when he first stepped off his boat into the new world (see Genesis 9:1). Noah was over 600 years old at this point. God wasn’t telling him to have more natural children, but instead God was telling him to have spiritual children.

To see all the people that God told to “Be Fruitful and Multiply”, I suggest you do a word study on the word "fruit" or “fruitful” or “multiply”.

In the 15th chapter of John, JESUS revealed the highest meaning of what it means to be “fruitful”. Here are just a few verses from that chapter:

2Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

5I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

8Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

16You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.

JESUS ministry was about helping His followers to become fruitful. In His parting Words in Matthew 28 He told His followers to MULTIPLY when He said:

19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

From God’s first Words to man to JESUS last Words to His followers, the number one message has consistently been to:

“BE FRUITFUL AND MULTIPLY”
