KNOW THYSELF…
It has been said that the most important thing one can do in life is to “Know Thyself”. Until you know who you are, you will have a feeling of being lost in your soul. You will feel like a speck of dust that is being blown by the wind, with no control over your life. But when you come to know who you truly are, you would gladly walk away from everything in your life to hold on to your true self. It’s a feeling and knowledge worth dying for.
God knows how important it is that we know ourselves. That’s why He provided us with an Owners Manuel known as the Holy Bible. The Bible is all about you. Every page reveals who we are and it is very different than who we think we are. The more we learn about God, the more we are learning about ourselves, and the more we learn about our true selves, the more we are learning about God.
God began to tell us who we were before He even created us. In the very first chapter of Genesis we read these words:
26And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:
Just like a son grows up to be like his father, so we are sons of our Heavenly Father. We were made from His DNA. We were created to think like Him, talk like Him, and act like Him.
Notice how God refers to Himself as “Us” in verse 26. He refers to Himself as “Us” because God is a Trinity. The Trinity is made up of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Each of the Godheads made us after their image and likeness which is why we see the statement of God creating us in His image. It was first spoken in verse 26 (see above), and then twice in verse 27:
27a So God created man in his own image
27b …in the image of God created he him
Our Heavenly Father created us to be like Him, and JESUS created us to be like Him, and The Holy Spirit created us to be like Him.
God The Father is the one who is the thinker of the three. It is His will that the other two carry out. He imagined the world and the universe down to the minutest detail before the other two did their parts to make it a reality.
God The Son is the Word of God. It was He who spoke everything into existence.
God The Holy Spirit is the one who acts upon every Word that comes forth from the mouth of JESUS.
God is the most successful Person who has ever lived. The key to His success is that all three of His “parts” work together in perfect harmony.
We too were created as a trinity. The secret to our success will be to line our will with our Heavenly Father’s will, and to line up our words with the Words of JESUS, and to line up our actions with those of The Holy Spirit.
In the fourth chapter of Luke, JESUS found Himself in the Scriptures:
16He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. 17The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: 18"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, 19to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."[e] 20Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, 21and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."
Like JESUS, we will never find ourselves until we find ourselves in the Holy Scriptures.
