ALL SCRIPTURE IS GOD BREATHED…

I’ve had many people tell me over the years that after setting out to read the Bible through, they became discouraged and quit after getting bogged down in the genealogies and laws.

The first such genealogies are found in the 5th chapter of Genesis, which covers the first ten generations between Adam and Noah, and it goes like this…

Adam had a son named Seth, who had a son named Enosh, who had a son named Kenan, who had a son named Mahalalel, who had a son named Jared, who had a son named Enoch, who had a son named Methuselah, who had a son named Lamech, who had a son named Noah. Are your eyes glazed over yet?
There was some 1,000 years between Adam and Noah. Many of the generations between Adam and Noah did not believe in God and paid no attention to Him throughout their lives. But in this genealogy, God reveals how He is in control of everything. In the Hebrew language, people’s names have a meaning. When you put the meaning of the names of this genealogy together, it creates a statement by God to all mankind. Here is the meaning of the ten names in this first genealogy and the amazing statement God gave the world through it.

# of Order Name Meaning of Name
1 Adam Man
2 Seth Appointed
3 Enosh Mortal
4 Kenan Sorrow
5 Mahalalel The Blessed God
6 Jared Shall Come Down
7 Enoch Teaching
8 Methuselah His Death Shall Bring
9 Lamech Despairing
10 Noah Rest

If you put the meaning of the names in order, it would read:

“MAN [IS] APPOINTED MORTAL SORROW [BUT] THE BLESSED GOD SHALL COME DOWN TEACHING [THAT] HIS DEATH SHALL BRING [THE] DESPAIRING REST.”

IS THAT COOL OR WHAT???

Do you want to hear something else that’s cool? Of all the people in this genealogy, Methuselah (8th generation from Adam) lived the longest. In fact he lived longer than anyone in history, including Adam. He lived a grand total of 969 years. His name refers to the judgment of God. His name implies that his death will bring the judgment of God. When you do the math you will discover on the day he died is the day the 40 days of rain began to fall in Noah’s day. It was the beginning of the flood that wiped all the unrepentant sinners off the earth.

Do you know why God allowed Methuselah to live so long? It’s because it is God’s will that no one parish. God kept giving people more and more time to listen to Noah’s warnings, but no matter how long He gave them, they refused to listen.

Today things are just as they were in the days of Noah. People are living in outright defiance to the laws of God. People have made themselves the god of their own life, and very few are sold out for God. God is prolonging the second coming of JESUS and the end of the world hoping that more people will turn from their sinful ways, but His patience has a limit.

Those who are truly wise will climb aboard the ark, which represents JESUS, who will save us from the coming judgment of God.

Would you be ready if JESUS came back today???
